This is the time of year when everybody sneezes, coughs and we do not leave our apartments without a bunch of tissues. Dr. Woodson Merrell from New York shared some great tips and tricks on how to avoid the common cold or flu this winter.
1) Try steaming with eucalyptus or peppermint oil
It is an old recipe – steaming! But even though you can’t understand why is good your head to be covered with a towel rammed over a pan of boiling water, believe it – it’s because it works. In the inhaler (if you have a modern variation) put some essential oils of eucalyptus or peppermint, which helps with expectoration and they can kill the infection.
If you do not have an inhaler, then do the old way – heat the water, add a few drops of essential oil and put a towel over your head.
2) Cook with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial herbs and spices
You’d be surprised what all natural cures we have in our kitchens. For example, garlic and turmeric. Garlic has anti-microbial properties, while the popular Indian spice – turmeric – Dr. Merrell called the most powerful anti-inflammatory agent. He advises to use both spices as much as possible.
