Coffee is The Biggest Source of Antioxidants

A lot of studies have shown that coffee is good for you. It has been linked to a reduced risk of many diseases. Studies also show that coffee produces more antioxidants in a diet than any food group.

Coffee is loaded with several important antioxidants

Our body is constantly under attack by free radicals (reactive molecules). Antioxidants donate electrons to these free radicals, meaning that they disarm them in an effective way.

Some of the coffee’s important antioxidants are polyphenols and hydrocinnamic acids. The polyphenols may help prevent some diseases, such as diabetes (type 2), cancer and heart disease.

Dietary sources of antioxidants

Drinks, such as tea and coffee, are a much larger source of antioxidants than food. Only 21% comes from food, and 79% comes from drinks.

Coffee is the biggest dietary source of antioxidants

This has been proven by studies conducted all around the world.

Coffee is linked to a reduced risk of many diseases

– Diabetes (type 2) – 23-50%

– Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s – 32-65%

– Premature death – 20-30%

Coffee also reduces the risk of liver cirrhosis, colorectal and liver cancer, stroke, heart disease, depression etc.

Are coffee antioxidants equal to those found in vegetables and fruits?

Coffee does not contain the same antioxidants as vegetables and fruits. So, for overall health it is best to get a variety of minerals, vitamins, plant compounds and antioxidants from many different sources.

And even though coffee is the biggest source of antioxidants, you should not rely on it as the only source of antioxidants.
