Vaginal Bleeding and It’s NOT Menstruation? Is it Normal?

Many women have faced abnormal vaginal bleeding. The bleeding is considered abnormal, if it happens when we do not expect menstruation, if it occurs before 10 years of age, during pregnancy or after menopause.

Abnormal bleeding, itself is not a sign that something is seriously wrong with your health. If bleeding occur during pregnancy it is necessary to visit a gynecologist. Mostly in cases where the bleeding is minimal, it is considered as relatively normal for some women. But if excessive bleeding occurs, especially before 12 weeks of the pregnancy, it is a sign that something is seriously wrong. Most often it is a serious problem such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or placenta previa.

In some women, the occurrence of bleeding between two menstrual cycles is associated with ovulation. In case of existence of polycystic ovaries, although the occurred hormonal imbalance may prevent normal ovulation, still it is possible to notice bleeding.

Frequent causes of abnormal bleeding are also contraceptive pills and the IUD. In the first months, after starting to use the pills, bleeding between two cycles is rare which in this case may occur if the treatment is not taken daily. The spiral which is placed into the female reproductive system, in order to prevent pregnancy, except that it causes abnormal bleeding it can also cause a heavy menstrual flow.

In case of inflammation of an organ in the pelvis (the fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus or the vagina) abnormal bleeding is possible. When an infection is the cause of its occurrence, it is noticed that it usually occurs after sexual intercourse.

Of course, we must not forget to mention that an extreme emotional stress plays a major role. Along with extreme physical activity it is considered rare, but still a present causer of abnormal bleeding.
