What Should Your Blood Pressure be According to Your Age?

Regulating the blood pressure can become an attribute, except if you are older. The results of a study involving 2.000 seniors were published online and they surprised the world.

Hypertension is life threatening. It affects the function of the kidneys, arteries and the whole body. This causes heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure, stroke, and other very dangerous health problems.

But, the same treatment cannot affect everyone.

How can hypertension be diagnosed?

Healthcare providers ask for a precise picture of patient’s blood pressure. The activity starts at the age of 20. Young people should screen the blood pressure in every 2 years, at their regular healthcare visit.

This is for those with blood pressure under 120/80 mm Hg.

Blood pressure increases with heartbeats and drops between those beats when the heart relaxes. It varies every minute due to the physical activity, posture, sleep and stress.

For adults aged 20 and over, the normal blood pressure is lower than 120/80 mm Hg.

When the patient’s blood pressure is higher than the normal, the doctors make readings. But, before high blood pressure is diagnosed, it is suggested that the patient monitors it at home.

The doctor will require you to begin a treatment program, if the blood pressure maintains to be 140/90 mm Hg or higher. These programs involve dietary and lifestyle changes and even prescription drugs for those with blood pressure higher than 140/90 mm Hg.

If the blood pressure is 180/110 mmHg or more, rest for couple of minutes and monitor the blood pressure again. But, if it is still that high, seek medical help immediately.

But, do not stand still even if your blood pressure is normal. By introducing some life changes you will prevent the blood pressure from going up and protect your health. This will improve your overall health.
